Now in friends-and-family beta
Your home battery is smarter than its settings.
Watt iQ decides every five minutes whether your battery should charge, hold, power the house or sell to the grid. You set the goals once. Your family earns and saves more from the battery you already paid for.

The problem
An expensive battery, run by a very simple rule
Australian homes are installing batteries faster than anywhere in the world, and most of them average around 28 kWh. That is plenty to trade with. But nearly all of them run on the same basic setting they left the factory with.
Set-and-forget settings
Most batteries charge from solar and run down at night, no matter what power costs. They never notice a cheap morning or a pricey evening.
Tariffs that keep changing
Time-of-use, demand charges, free-power windows, wholesale plans. Working out the best move every day is a job nobody wants.
Money left on the table
On a wholesale plan, prices spike most evenings. Selling a little at the right moment can pay more than a week of ordinary feed-in.
How Watt iQ works
Five things, every five minutes
Each cycle runs in this order, so the plan is always built on a fresh forecast and a fresh price.
Forecast
Tomorrow's sunshine from the weather, and your household's use from its own history, calendar and season.
Price
Live five minute wholesale and neighbour-to-neighbour prices, plus forecasts, straight from Localvolts.
Optimise
The cheapest plan to charge, hold, sell or power the house, recalculated every five minutes inside your limits.
Protect
Your backup reserve stays put, warranty cycle limits are respected, and the battery fills up before a forecast storm.
Report
A clear monthly picture of what you saved and earned against your battery's default setting.
You stay in charge
Set your goals once. We handle the rest.
Tell Watt iQ what matters to your family. Save as much as possible. Always keep a third of the battery for a blackout. Go easy on the battery to protect the warranty. Then get on with your life.
- Your backup reserve is never touched, whatever the price is doing.
- Warranty cycle limits are built into every plan.
- Before a forecast storm the battery is filled early, just in case.
- Change your mind any time. The next plan is five minutes away.

Who it is for
Families with a battery, in five states, who would rather not think about it
Watt iQ trades through Localvolts, an authorised retailer that passes through live five minute prices. If you live in ACT, NSW, QLD, SA or TAS and have a home battery, you are who we built this for.
Any brand, one plan
Mixed inverters, a second battery or an EV in the garage. Watt iQ gives the household one plan and one picture of what it earned.
Three-phase homes
Larger homes often have three-phase power and a battery that only sees one of them. Watt iQ balances across all three so nothing is wasted.
Electric cars next
Charging the car is the biggest flexible load in most homes. Smart EV charging is on the roadmap, so the car fills when power is cheapest.
Common questions
The things people ask first
Will I lose my backup power?
No. You choose how much of the battery to keep for a blackout, for example 30 percent, and Watt iQ never dips below it, no matter how high the price goes.
Do I need a new battery or new hardware?
No. Watt iQ is software that talks to the battery you already have. If your battery can be controlled remotely, we can usually work with it.
What does it cost?
Subscriptions are expected to start at A$25 a month, with final pricing confirmed before launch. The aim is for a typical household to earn back many times that.
Is it hard to set up?
You set your goals once, connect your battery and switch your electricity plan to Localvolts. From there Watt iQ runs on its own and shows you what it saved each month.
